Oops

I know I haven't been updating much in the way of actual content on what I have been doing of late, but it looks like my ISP might have closed the account I have with them. Not sure why but I might have pushed my Unlimited account over it's 40GB limit. So might be away for a week and a bit.

Merry Christmas to all.

P.S My ISP is or was, Orange.

Internet Trouble

My ISP Wanadoo got bought by Orange and things where good for a time, but then they tried moving me over to some new servers and that stopped me from being able to access a load of websites including:
http://www.gamevideos.com
http://www.3dgamers.com
http://www.ign.com
http://www.gamespy.com

Which I use daily so I was fairly annoyed, but I thought I would give them a few hours to get it sorted. However after a week it has become a right pain so I went looking for a solution on OrangeProblems.co.uk. I knew at this time that it was a DNS issue, but wanted to see what other people where doing to fix it.

My thoughts where towards setting up a local DNS server, but someone pointed to OpenDNS a project that speeds up DNS access, blocks phishing sites and corrects misspelled URLs. They make profit from placing adverts on a page when you request a site address that doesn't exist.

This thing is SO much faster. MySpace (which is the site they say people will notice the most difference on) loads almost instantly. DNS lookup is loads faster. So even when Orange sort this problem out I will be sticking with OpenDNS.

The Humor Archives

Just found This site and it's got some gems on there.

Firstly The Magic Roundabout which looks ridicules, the picture is a little old and clearly in Britain so I had a look for it. And Here it is at Swindon.

Then the guy trying to Cancel His AOL Account. Now you get put through to grumpy Indians who don't help and just want to get you off the line as fast as possible.

Hot Day

Today has indeed been a hot day. I have been threatening for years to get air conditioning, but this heat only lasts for about three weeks of the year so it isn't worth it right now. Once global warming has taken more of an effect, then I might reconsider.

Just been reading about how Japan's high speed internet is being Attacked by Crows, of all things. Turns out that fibber optic cables make for good nests.

And according to Peer Schneider at IGN It's Pickling Time for Mario64 which made me laugh.
